Area Marina Protetta Capo Carbonara

Carbonara is the old name for Villasimius, which was used until 1862 due to the intensive exploitation of charcoal carried out here.

The Marine Protected Area of Capo Carbonara is located on the south-eastern edge of Sardinia, and is sub-divided into two large bays (eastern and western) by the promontory of Capo Carbonara and the island of Isola dei Cavoli.

The whole area is marked out by its very diverse landscape, encompassing rocky coasts, long white beaches, wetlands and woodlands. The fauna and flora exemplify the biodiversity of this place, where we can find all manner of fish (including tropical species), peregrine falcons, flamingos, dolphins, Mediterranean scrubland on the coast and Neptune grass on the seabed.

The Marine Area has recently had its Environmental Management System certified as compliant with the UNI EN ISO 14001:2004 standard.
